May 16: Public Service Announcement:
Houma/Terrebonne: On Saturday, July 2, 2011, the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Regional Military Museum, SEECA Ophthalmology, H-TV and many other generous donors will be sponsoring the 3rd annual Independence Day Celebration. The theme for this years celebration is American Pride and will start at 11:00 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial on Highway 311. There will be a ceremony honoring the service of our military, police and fire department veterans. At 12:30 we will leave from the Memorial and have a parade with floats for all veterans to be carried on to the Houma Civic Center. The Memorial and Patriots Parade will focus on the successful completion of Louisiana National Guard Charlie and Delta Companies mission, in Iraq, as well as the 50th anniversary of our conflict in Vietnam. As the Co-chairperson of this event, Robin Lejeune, explained, quote: It is our honor, as well as our duty, to recognize the men and women in our community who have served and continue to serve selflessly, to keep us safe. We especially want to honor those who fought in Vietnam, who deserve the recognition that most were deprived of, after serving during a most difficult time in our Nations history. It is the least we can do. The parade will travel from Concord Plaza on St Charles down Valhi Blvd. to the Civic Center. There will be food, raffle, and childrens entertainment throughout the day. At 5:00 pm there will also be a 5K run for adults and a fun run for the kids departing the Civic Center. This year BG Bicycle will also sponsor our first bicycle Crit that starts at 8:00 in morning. The musical entertainment this year will be by Waylon Thibodaux, the Houma-Terrebonne Community Band, Papillion and the US Navy Band. Dawn Pierron, Sponsorship Coordinator and member of the committee explained, quote:We are very excited about the entertainment lineup. The military and their families have sacrificed so much for us, it is important to us and to our sponsors to celebrate them on this day. There will also be a skydiving team providing their exciting performance, and we hope to have a fly-over by our U.S. Armed Forces if their mission permits. The night will be capped off at 9:00 p.m. with a wonderful fireworks display.
